Insta-Recap: I’m in ESSENCE Mag, My BF’s new book and Thanksgiving Turbans!

It’s been a busy couple of weeks full of fashion jobs, shoots and events! Let’s Insta-Recap! Thanksgiving brought some much needed (and hilarious) family time, my boyfriend Obi released his new book “From Job Interview to Job Offer”, I worked on an exciting shoot for the new Brides EIC, Keija Minor. I was thrilled to be featured in the December issue of ESSENCE! I have worked with all of the editors there and they are amazing. It’s no surprise that ESSENCE is the most popular African American women’s magazine. In other fashion news, I met up with my friend, Julee Wilson, Style and Beauty editor of Huffington Post/Black Voices for lunch and we were wearing the same exact African tribal bangles!! Ha! These ‘grams and more when you read on!

I was featured in the “What We’re Wearing” story of the December issue of ESSENCE (p. 34)! This look I’m wearing is from February #NYFW. So exciting to be featured, I love ESSENCE : )

I’m so proud of my boyfriend, Obi! His new book “From Job Interview to Job Offer” is out now on Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com! Such an amazing accomplishment! This book is for anyone who wants to make an winning impression in an interview or meeting. It’s full of tips and will change the way you see yourself as a brand! Definitely the best $14.99 you’ll ever spent. You can buy it Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com! I’m reading it now and can’t put it down.

This past week, I worked on a Brides Magazine shoot for the Editor-in-Chief, Keija Minor! Keija is the first African American EIC in the 103 year history of Conde Nast. Insane! It was great meeting her. She’s gorgeous and the shoot was flawless!

Speaking of shoots, I love this recent outfit post captured in a Brooklyn laundromat called the Wash Club! Suds up!

This Azzedine Alaia boot at Barneys made me do a double take! Gurllll…. : )

The highlight of Thanksgiving with my fam: tying my “lots a knots” turban on my big brother, ND! Ha! I think he rocked it! Totally channeling Etro Men’s Fall 2012, lol!

One of the many things I am thankful for: my BF and BFF : )

How cute are Julee Wilson and I at lunch with our matching African tribal bangles? Only difference: Julee got hers in South Africa during their Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and I purchased mine in NEW JERSEY! HA! lol! We had a big laugh about that. It was so great catching up with her : ) Love ya, Julee!

Whatever your goal, every day brings a fresh new opportunity to achieve it! This nugget of wisdom has been my fav of mine.

Stay tuned for next weeks Insta-Recap!

Laundry Day at the Wash Club!

I’ve been in love with this vintage Levis skirt from Biddies and Blokes. On this day, I went for blue-on-blue with the addition of an H&M striped sweater. I’m also debuting my ombre hand dyed silk scarf from Shimmer and Bliss, tied into a turban, of course : ). They have the best silk scarves! I am loving both of mine! Thank you, My-Cherie : ). I love how the yellow and green gates behind bring out the vibrant neon green in the scarf.

Near by, there’s a laundry mat called the Wash Club. How fun! I was intrigued and went there to play for a bit!

This amazing lion purse belonged to my wonderful grandmother, Elizabeth Okonkwo, who’s now in heaven. It’s one of my favorite pieces and is very special to me.

Vintage coat (from my Mommy : ), H&M sweater, Vintage Levis skirt (from Biddies and Blokes), boots courtesy of Kate Spade, Shimmer and Bliss scarf, Urban Outfitters shades, Forever 21 “Love” bangle, my grandma’s purse : ): )

I’m With The Band

This has been one of my favorite looks of the year. A vibrant red vintage band jacket, vintage Jordache coat and leather skirt made for the perfect Fall look. Accessories for the day? A silk scarf courtesy of Shimmer and Bliss, Keith Haring necklace by NOIR, chic circular shades by Urban Outfitters and gold platform, mod inspired leather boots courtesy of Kate Spade. The red band jacket stood out wonderfully on this chilly November afternoon and has quickly become my favorite shade.. Also clad in red is actress Marion Cotillard on the cover of W’s December issue. Her spread inside is high fashion meets whimsy, featuring a life size toy soldier wearing a jacket very similar to mine (in latex)! Not to be missed!
