My 15 Pairs of Mercura Sunglasses for NYFW!

mercurasunglasses

My history with Mercura dates back to 2010, when I first heard about the couture eyewear company from a fellow stylist during a photo shoot. From the first day I visited their Chelsea Hotel showroom, I knew it was absolute love at first sight. No turning back. I remember spending about 2 1/2 hours trying on sunglasses and chatting with the amazingly talented designers, sisters Rachel and Merrilee. Soon after that first meeting, our relationship blossomed and I began wearing their shades on a regular basis, for NYFW, features, and any other fabulous happenings. Their shades have become a part of my personal style. Above, are the 15 pairs of Mercura Sunglasses that I had as options for this past show week. Pretty amazing! Lets get into the details.

mercuraangelshadesThree different Pairs of monkey shades, 2 cherub shades and 1 heart shaped sunnie, invites to Tommy Hilfiger, Zero + Maria Cornejo, J Mendel program, and a gifted Duro Olowu journal set from his new JC Penny collection

This NYFW season, I wore the monkey shades in the middle, the top cherubs and the heart shaped sunglasses. The monkey’s are the ones I think I’m most known for wearing. They make people smile : ). Since February NYFW falls alongside with Valentine’s Day, I thought the heart shaped shades would be a fun choice! Adorable. And the circular cherubs are just so damn cool.

bugsunglassesDaily Front Row’s from NYFW, bug shades, carrot shades (!), 2 cherub shades again

The Daily is like a NYFW tradition! I love collecting them everyday at the tents (they’re free!), but I usually don’t have time to read them until after show week, since my schedule’s so hectic! I’ve had the wonderful opportunity of being featured on 2 occasions,  (here-interview and here). It would be amazing to write for them, I love their amusing tone. The editors are so fab! I especially love the Editor-in-Chief Brandusa Niro. She is such a wonderful burst of energy. We used to run into each other in the bathroom all the time when I worked at ESSENCE (the two mags share a floor at Time Inc.) and she would always compliment my outfit! : ) Swoons!

These shades get me excited about Spring and Summer! Love!

rhinestonesunglassesNew York Fashion Week book, Barbie shades

This book was a gift from the author Eila Mell. It’s amazing and chronicles NYFW all the way back to October 31, 1993 when it first debuted at Bryant Park. Wonderful book and concept. I ran into Eila this past NYFW and she interviewed me for her new fashion series “No Wire Hangers”. How cool! I’ve worn these Barbie shades twice and each time they’ve made me feel like Cinderella. They are just so beautiful. Stunning. Even more so in person.

I love dried roses. I think they’re gorg. I’m drying these for a cool home decorating project that will be up here soon! It involves candles, stay tuned. These heart shaped shades are another fave of mine. I’m such a girly-girl.

JoyLovesFashion x FashionBombDaily: What To Wear For All-Star Weekend

Hi all! All-Star Weekend is in full effect. Looking for last minute outfit ideas? Check out these style inspirations that I created for FashionBombDaily.

Look 1: Casual Chic

For a casual-cute look, pair an asymmetrical Helmut Lang leather jacket with printed Paige Verdugo jeans. Add grey booties, a mint-colored Hobo bag, and graphic print sunglasses to further compliment the look. (You can find these exact Nasty Gal shades here.) This is perfect for a daytime event and can be taken easily into evening. I’ve also added some additional lower priced denim options to give you a similar look.

Look #2: Under $100 Fab
Every item for this look is under $100! You definitely don’t need to break the bank to look fab. It’s all in the styling! Leather jeans/leggings are huge right now and go with everything.

what-to-wear-to-all-star-What-to-Wear-to-All-Star-Weekend-2013Pair these $61 River Island jeans with a $30 TopShop tee and add sleek $79 Steve Madden Realove Sandals. Accessorize this look with a $100 Vince Camuto clutch, $68 gold necklaces, $40 earrings, and a cool $92 McQ Alexander McQueen razor bracelet. You can find the gold version here. A red lip later and you’re set! (Bonus: you can snag this “blacker than black” Nubar nailpolish here).

Look #3: Sexy Lady

This blue leather skirt and black top combo is a sexy option for the weekend’s events. Add a pair of L.A.M.B. colorblocked heels, a black clutch like this one from Acne. A statement ring like this one from De Anna Kiernan here is a great touch. A purple lip by MAC boldy finishes off this look.

Look #4: Glam Gal

For a more dressed up look, try this black and white colorblock Rag & Bone dress (on sale now for $225) paired with a nude shoe (like these Costume National crisscross pumps here). Go luxe with a Miu Miu clutch and statement gold jewelry. A red glossy lip finishes this off nicely.

Which is your fav look?

My J. Mendel Fall 2013 Review on HelloBeautiful.com

Great news! I’m the new fashion writer for HelloBeautiful.com. So thrilled! During NYFW, I reviewed a total of 10 shows, did 3 celebrity interviews, 2 designer interviews, and 1 behind the scenes beauty review! It was a whirlwind and I had a wonderful time. I will be posting my Hello Beautiful work here with links to the site. Let’s start with the fab J. Mendel show.

JMENDEL

For his Fall 2013 collection, designer Gilles Mendel’s goal was to strike a “harmonious balance between decadence and discipline.” He did just that with this luxurious offering. A designer’s struggle always lies in making clothes that are beautiful, yet wearable. Mendel was up to task for Fall.

As to be expected there was fur, and lots of it. Mendel, from a family of furriers, added sumptuous touches to sleeves, lapels, and even necklines. Standout furs included his first look, a gorgeous color-blocked mink coat, and later in the lineup, a show-stopping burgundy trench. Exquisite. One does not have to be a fan of fur to admire Mendel’s supreme talent with the material.

Another strong theme present in this collection was leather. One standout look- a black leather dress worn under a beautifully quilted jacket showed Mendel’s knack for making leather sleek and sophisticated, rather than reminiscent of a biker gang. Read more HERE.

Special thanks to my new HB fam!
