Love Happens When You Least Expect… A TO Z

unnamed-1I love a good love story. Especially when things don’t go according to plan. That’s definitely me and Obi’s relationship. We’ve known each other since 2002! We met at college (Rutgers University) and were just friends for YEARS until we graduated and re-connected at a bbq. And now we’re engaged and running a business together (CurlSistas). I love telling our story because it was so unexpected! All along the love of my life was right under my nose, ha!

NBC has a new comedy about love and fate called A TO Z, a story of Andrew and Zelda- two opposites who meet by chance. It’s an off-beat comedy about falling in love in the modern world and all the things that come along with it! It premiers tonight at 9:30/8:30 c on NBC. Your Thursday nights just got funnier. #ATOZ

NYFW | The Day Before

nyfwpre1nyfwpre5nyfwpre4nyfwpre2Things have been very busy and very awesome here at Team JoyLovesFashion + Team CurlSistas. My new line of gorgeous natural textured hair extensions is launching next month and I started off this week with Kerry Washington on the set of Good Morning America promoting her new Scandal Collection! Fashion month is coming to a close and really wanted to share my looks with you all!

The day before NYFW, I attended a super cute blogger brunch for Harlem’s Fashion Row in downtown NYC. I was feeling really low-key-fab and decided on these Elizabeth + James boyfriend-style pants (that I was gifted on set with Refinery 29 + TJMaxx back in June). To bring the look up a notch, I added these sexy yet comfy Steve Madden camo print strappy heels!

Wearing: Elizabeth and James pants | Ivanka Trump shirt | Steve Madden heels + bangle | Joe Fresh leather bag

On lips: MAC’s Ruby Woo – ooooooo : )

First Look at CurlSistas Hair Extensions Campaign

curlsistashairgroup1 copy feature

The beginning: Back in late March of this year on a Friday afternoon, myself (a fashion and natural hair obsessed blogger and fashion stylist) and my beloved fiancé, Obi (business and tech expert) came up with CurlSistas– the destination for Black women with natural hair + great style (the first of it’s kind!). I had been natural for 5 years and knew the trials and tribulations as well as maintenance and style tips. Obi, who has always supported and loved my natural hair- promptly ordered the top 3 books on natural hair (one of these being The Science of Black Hair) and immersed himself on everything from natural hair types to maintaining moisture. Talk about awesome! Obi is equally as knowledgable and passionate about Curlsistas and natural hair as I am. We’re a true team : )

Our vision/idea was met with much support by our celeb friends and hair/fashion gurus who RP’d on Instagram and helped spread the word about CurlSistas: Celeb hair stylist Ursula Stephen, Olympic gold medalist Sanya Richards-Ross, Celeb stylist to Beyoncé, Ty Hunter, and veteran fashion journalist Constance White. On April 16, we proudly launched the site you’re reading right now, to much anticipation. Armed with hundreds of beautiful, aspiration and inspiration images of stylish, natural hair’d Black women, our Instagram soared from 0 to over 6,100 – in just 5 months.

CurlSistas Hair

Now, we’ve hit another proud moment at CurlSistas: our upcoming natural textured hair line- CurlSistas Hair, launching next month! This was a natural next step for our brand as I’ve always been obsessed with hair and have done hair for as long as I can remember, teaching myself how to do sew ins for my mom at the age of 14 (and the story goes on)! CurlSistas Hair is Virgin Human Hair and comes in 3 textures that are true to you!: Chi-Chi loose curl (3b-3c hair type), Chima tight curl (3c-4a) and the Adaeze kinky curl (4b-4c). The lengths for each are 16,18 and 20 inches. To meet every CurlSistas’ hair needs, we offer both clip ins and wefted hair for sew ins.

The chic extras: We’ve had custom satin hair pouches made that are included with each purchase as well as something very special- an e-book Obi and I wrote of DIY hair product recipes on how to make your own natural hair products (like my personal fave- CurlSistas Creamy Coconut Co-wash), chock full of natural hair info.

I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished with CurlSistas Hair in the last 5 months. All the meetings, conference calls, emails, samples, testing, research and hard work has been truly worth it. Plus, it’s been a blessing to work with my fiance on our first business venture!
