JPG vs AdR: It’s a Fashion Music Video Faceoff!

Music has always played a big role in the fashion industry. It’s a perfect pairing that goes hand in hand, like PB&J. Which brings us to today’s discussion. Most recently, I came across Anna Dello Russo‘s music video for her new single “Fashion Shower”, featuring her accessories line for H&M. It’s a fun and catchy song where Dello Russo chants “You need a fashion shower” all while wearing a black latex bodycon mini and fabulous gold accoutrements.  Throghout the song, she lists her “fashion lessons’, my favorites include “Fashion is a declaration of your own freedom” and “Somebody wearing your same outfit? Wonderful! You [made] the right choice”. lol!

Back in 1988, the amazing Jean Paul Gaultier starred in an epic music video for his one and only single, titled “How To Do That”, which featured a young Naomi Campbell (0:52 mark), a fabulous pair of dancing sissors and fierce vogueing models.

Both songs have a fun chorus, eye catching visuals and 3 letter abbreviated fashion icons. So, which gets your vote?

I HAD to share these fab vids with you! Which is your fav? I call a tie. I’m obsessed with them both : )

A Double Dose of Tropical Realness at Mara Hoffman Spring 2013

This image is from Mara Hoffman’s Spring 2013 NYFW show last month! Can you spot me?! I thought it was so cool that Mara showcased a tropical theme on the very same day that I decided to do my head-to-toe Versace for H&M look! The collection was fabulous and my girl Ataui Deng totally rocked it! I also chatted with my former boss, senior fashion editor at WWD, Bobbi Queen, who is sitting a seat away! Always so great seeing her!

Thanks for the photo, Matsidiso Nzimande-Da Silva!

Brands I Adore: Etro

Im excited to bring to you a new series on my blog called “Brands I Adore”, where I will bring you my favorite lines, the brands that inspire me immensely and that I envision in my closet! First up is Etro, a brand that I most recently have completely fallen in love with. As you know I am obsessed with all things print and vintage. Etro satisfies both for me. They are a strong family brand, which is a rarity. Founded in 1968 by patriarch, Gimmo Etro, the brand went on to make it’s debut in textiles in 1981, gaining notoriety for their beautiful paisley motif.  In 1984, they introduced a bag collection and in 1986, a home collection was birthed. The late 1980’s saw the addition of fragrances. (They now have 24 different scents.) Gimmo’s four children run the storied Italian empire. Their men’s and women’s epic Pret-a-Porter lines (helmed by Kean and Victoria Etro, respectively) were unveiled in the 90s to much acclaim. Ippolito Etro acts as CFO and COO, while Jacopo Etro heads accessories, homes & textiles and communications. It’s truly a family affair and a work of love! Their vision, workmanship and innovative use of materials is what makes this brand iconic and one of my top 5 favorites!

Fall 2012 Campaign

How amazing are these campaign images?! I love how Etro mixes prints and fabric, which I feel keeps clothes unexpected and fresh! One important thing for me when it comes to fashion is that I must feel the element of surprise. That feeling must be there, unless there’s no use wearing it. It’s boring. For Fall 2012, there was a mix of 70s decadence and expensive taste. These are clothes that tell a story. When I look at this campaign, it brings me to 1973. Perfect.

Spring 2013: Women’s

Elegant. Japanese-inspired. Incredibly Chic.

I would wear the black and white gown to a black tie event (sandals and all!), the yellow gown to a wedding. The white jacket and pants would be great for dinner in London. The sheer butterfly number over jeans will be for shopping in NYC and the peacock frock for a party in Paris!

Done and done! : )

Spring 2013 Men’s

Fantastic. Bold. Turban Approved.

I truly cannot fully describe the genius of this collection. It’s everything that I love! I think men look amazing in turbans, and between you and me, I’ve been trying to get my boyfriend to rock one — if only in the comfort of my apartment! lol. I do think that my friend celebrity stylist Ugo Mozie would look killer in a turban. Ugo, if you’re reading this, let me know if that’s your thing! : )

Yesterday, I visited the Etro store in Soho on 89 Greene St. It’s absolutely wonderful, gorgeous! Two floors of beautiful clothing and accessories. If you are in the area, make sure to visit! I will see if I can snap some pics next time I’m there!

I can’t wait to show you next week’s “Brands I Adore”! Until then, kisses and hugs!
