My Ouidad Salon Hair Makeover!

joybeforeafter

Hey dolls! I recently had the opportunity to get a fab hair makeover courtesy of Ouidad and I am obsessed with the turnout! Here’s a bit of my hair/turban journey and how I came to know and love the brand.

joyadaeze

Growing up in a Nigerian household, I’ve always been inspired by the beautiful headwraps my mom and other women would wear at special events. I started dabbling with turbans in high school and after I cut off my relaxed hair in 2010, I began wearing these head wraps as part of my signature look. I loved the way they framed my face. Turbans added such a beautiful, regal look!

I had been attending New York Fashion Week every season since 2008 and soon, I became known for the creative ways I rocked my turbans. I was featured in publications like The New York Times, ELLE, Italian Vogue and New York Magazine, which further solidified turbans as my look. Natural hair powerhouse, CurlBox, even gave me the title of “Turban Queen” after featuring me on their popular Instagram page!

ouidadnyfwjoyadaezeturbanI tie all of my turbans myself using 100% silk fabric, which is great for hair as it does not suck out it’s natural moisture. My favorite way to wrap ’em is a style I call the “honeybun”, which is formed by a series of twists and tucks! I get asked often where I get my turbans and one day I realized it was time to start my own turban line! I’m now in the beginning stages and will have my first collection out before the end of the year. My line will feature silk turbans that can be wrapped in 5 of my most favorite ways, along with a how-to video! Stay tuned!

…Fast forward to my love affair with Ouidad!

This Spring, CurlBox CEO/Instagram friend Myleik Teele invited me to an event she was hosting along with Ouidad for their new Curl Recovery line. I couldn’t wait to attend! I’d heard of Ouidad and their amazing work with curly haired gals but I hadn’t yet had a pleasure of visiting their NYC salon. The event was a hit! Tons of curly coifed women were in attendance and the salon was absolutely gorgeous. I learned about the new Curl Recovery products and also met with the fab Adama Sesay, Ouidad’s Assistant Manager of Digital Content and Commerce.

After the event, Adama invited me to the salon for a full Ouidad experience- treatment and cut. I had been thinking of changing my look for some time so I was thrilled at the offer! I had a shorter, tapered cut in mind and wanted to go edgy and add a side part. I met with senior stylist Ayanna (who is also one of my Instagram followers) and she worked her magic!

Ayanna’s sick leopard blowdryer! #Need

Ayanna first started out by washing my hair with Ouidad’s Curl Recovery Ultra Nourishing Cleansing Oil, which left it feeling so soft! She followed this with a quick detangling, by way of Ouidad’s genious double tooth comb, so cool and effective! I love this comb! Then it was time to deep condition and add some much needed moisture into my dried out tresses. Ayanna used Ouidad’s Curl Recovery Melt Down Extreme Repair Mask. This was amazing! My hair felt so nourished and moisturized. I sat under the dryer and Ayanna rinsed the conditioner out and got to the most anticipated part of the day: my new haircut! After clippin’ and shapin’, Ayanna added Ouidad’s Curl Defining Styling Souffle and twisted my hair. And, voila, my new look!

joyadaezenewhairI love everything about it! My new style is fierce and totally me! Everyone else thinks so, too. When I posted a pic of my new look on Instagram, it got tons of compliments! : )

My Ouidad hair makeover has been such a wonderful experience , especially since I had been having an issue with dryness dating back to when I first cut my hair 3 years ago. I hadn’t quite found the right products/formula to solve this problem until I discovered Ouidad’s Curl Recovery. I am now a daily Ouidad fan! I use the products each day and my hair has been getting softer, stronger and filled with much more moisture!

Here’s my daily artillery!

I still wear my turbans every now and then as a statement accessory (they are a great choice for a quick change up!) and now I am excited to have an awesome hair style to rock as well! Some ladies on Instagram say they’ll be copying my style, which is so cool! Special thanks to Adama, Ayanna and everyone at Ouidad! I am so happy with my new look!

**I’ll be Ouidad’s Curl Ambassador next month for New York Fashion Week. Stay tuned for my instagrams of curly gals in attendance and tweets of all the excitement!**

The Kris Jenner Show’s Makeover Segment!

photoGreat news! Over the weekend, I flew to LA to help on wardrobe on a makeover segment for The Kris Jenner Show (on FOX) yesterday with host/director, fashion expert Tai Beauchamp. We made over 2 lucky ladies who wanted to take control of their style and lives!

First up was 22 year old Leanne, a beautiful recent college student who is looking for a job in fashion. We gave her a chic look -Rebecca Taylor jacket & pants, DVF blouse, Rebecca Minkoff bag and Nordstrom heels- which will surely take her from job interview to landing that role! Next up was gorgeous Rose, a 40 year old divorced mother of two beautiful boys. She hasn’t dated in a while and needed a sexy style to match her bubbly personality! We set her up in a Rebecca Taylor leopard dress, Jeffrey Campbell ankle straps and a Steve by Steve Madden box clutch!

Cristophe Salon in Beverly Hills transformed their hair and turned them into drop dead divas! Check out the full Kris Jenner Show episode below! Our segment starts at the 23:50 mark!!
